  15. Eleanor Rigby (John Lennon-Paul McCartney)

 All songs previously released except 'Bad Boy'
This was the first compilation album of Beatles hits (with the strange inclusion of 'Bad Boy' a song previously released in the US but not in the UK) The album failed to make the number 1 spot, probably because the fans had all the records already!
* In 1983 the budget label 'Fame' released the album with the same artwork. It has been deleted since 1990 and has never been released on CD.

This was an incredibly good double album, but it could have been much better at the time of release. Capitol (The Beatles US label) decided to release the album so George Martin remixed all the songs for it, sadly the remixes were dropped and the original (very badly cut ) album tapes were substituted instead. The Album was deleted in 1978. But in 1981 it was decided to reissue the Album as 2 separate LP's Rock'N'Roll Music, Vol's 1 & 2 on EMI's budget label MFP (Music For Pleasure) and what a treat!...the remastered tracks originally intended for the 1976 release were all used on these 2 masterpieces.

*This Album Was Released Originally On The Same Day As Box Set 'The Beatles Collection' (BC 13), Which Was A Collection Of The 13 Original Beatles Studio Albums. (See previous page) Although Only Available With The Box Set, It Was Finally Released Individually On The 12th October 1979.It is not really a rarities album as such, just a collection of B Sides and the 'Long tall Sally' EP. It does include for the first time German versions of 2 Beatle tracks (these were previously released in the US but not worth a second listen!) The album has it's place however, as the first time these songs were collected on one LP. The American 'Rarities' Album (also released as part of 'The Beatles Collection' Box Set) substitutes the 2 German tracks for the English versions, making a copy of this album very rare as it was never released as a stand alone album unlike it's British counterpart.

In 1980 Capitol, The Beatles US label released a much more diverse & Interesting version of 'Rarities', instead of B-sides and EP tracks, this album included rare Mono recordings and the original 'Love me do' single (not available since 1963) Although this site is dedicated to British releases, this album has been included because of it's importance at the time.

  9. "Penny Lane"  Stereo, previously issued on Vee Jay LP Introducing... The Beatles;
  10. "Helter Skelter" Mono, ends at first fadeout without Ringo Starr's "blisters" outburst (first pressings of the album erroneously attribute the statement to John Lennon)

  12. "The Inner Light" (Harrison) Mono, previously released as the B-side of "Lady Madonna";

  15. "Sgt. Pepper Inner Groove" Stereo, a piece that ended the original British release of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band but was not included on the American version of the album. The tone is not included on this album but the laughter and noise are featured just before the actual runout groove. It has since been restored, including the high-pitch tone, for all worldwide CD and cassette versions of Sgt. Pepper as well as the 2012 vinyl remaster of the LP.
All songs written by Lennon-McCartney unless stated.
This album was released on 24 March 1980.

As most people had become bored with collecting the series quite early, the Beatles double LP is very rare.

Although it was released with agreement from Parlophone / EMI, Apple took out an injunction to stop its distribution. All production was halted by 1987 and the cassette remains highly collectable.

Orange - Previously released in a different version

This album consists of previously unreleased tracks from BBC radio shows from 1963-1965. 30 of the songs had never been released by the Beatles, 13 tracks are just dialogue, and the remaining songs have been previously recorded (although these were all alternate versions). ** I'll Be On My Way, was the first original Lennon-McCartney song to be released since 1970. The album reached Number 1 in the UK charts and is of great historical importance.
